Job – BDR East/Midwest

Simpler Media Group (SMG) is looking for an entrepreneurial, collaborative team member to work side-by-side with our eastern and midwest regional sales teams as a Business Development Representative (BDR). 

SMG, established in 2009, publishes the popular CMSWire and Reworked digital magazines, produces in-depth market research, and operates the DX Summit and Digital Workplace Experience conferences.

As a native digital publisher, SMG has rapidly adapted to the evolving customer and employee-facing digital landscapes, and continues to follow the evolution of digital customer experience, the digital workplace and enterprise information management.

What You’ll Do

Responsibilities include inbound sales, appointment setting, account research and assisting the sales team to achieve revenue goals. Your team will be selling marketing solutions, research services and event sponsorships to the world’s top-tier technology companies.

General Responsibilities

  • Research industry events and set calendars for attendance
  • Produce weekly sales reports for strategic outreach
  • Manage product marketing collateral and maintain documents with up-to-date sell sheets
  • Perform Marketo-based research tasks, helping to identify prospects and accounts
  • Help with RFPs and sales presentations
  • Work with delivery teams to manage product inventory and availability
  • Set-up, coordinate and maintain contracted projects via Basecamp
  • Travel occasionally to trade shows and industry events (once this is considered safe and you are comfortable doing so)

Inside Sales Responsibilities

Fielding inbound requests:

  • Review and research the account
  • Add all information and notes to Salesforce
  • Research and convert Leads to Contacts
  • Add / set all related account and contact metadata
  • Establish first point of contact and set meetings

Outreach to new accounts:

  • Identify lists of target accounts that are net new to SMG
  • Add Accounts, Lead/Contacts to Salesforce, including all supporting metadata, location, industry, segment and contact information
  • Research and identify additional persons of interest in the account
  • Establish communications and set initial meetings


SMG will pay a competitive base salary, sales commissions (% of gross sales) and additional bonuses/incentives (e.g., “x” dollars per scheduled call) based on achievement of revenue targets. OTE range: $65k-$85k based on experience and performance.


Requirements include 1+ years B2B media, marketing and/or event sponsorship sales or related enterprise sales experience, experience with Salesforce, Docusign, Google Docs, Marketo and Slack. 

A strong candidate will have the following:

  • A solid understanding of sales processes
  • Self-sufficiency with the ability to work remotely under minimal supervision
  • Experience in working with dynamic teams and collaborating virtually
  • Detail and process oriented with an eye for process evolution 
  • Highly-proficient in the latest digital collaboration and productivity tools
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to independently meet established goals
  • Desire to grow your career as a sales professional
