Job – Associate Managing Editor, Reworked (Remote)

The Reworked ( editorial team is looking for an enthusiastic, entrepreneurial and collaborative team member to work side-by-side with its Editor in Chief as an Associate Managing Editor. This is a full time, full benefits, remote position based in the United States.

Reworked is a digitally native publication catering to a global readership of employee experience, digital workplace and talent management professionals. Its publisher, Simpler Media Group, also operates the CMSWire publication, a well respected research department, a number of podcasts and a set of popular industry conferences.

Job responsibilities include managing Reworked’s growing contributor community, editing, writing and collaborating on podcasts, editorial calendars and other outputs of the Reworked editorial team. You will work with editorial team members as well as a variety of external partners — our contributors — on a daily basis to approve or refine story pitches, provide article feedback, maintain deadlines and finalize edits. You will actively monitor and participate in the industry conversations on social media and use your social media participation to identify editorial opportunities (story ideas) and connect with new sources.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Directly manage Reworked contributors, managing deadlines, feedback and review cycles, and keeping a close eye on overall content and contributor success
  • Manage the pipeline of new contributors, vetting candidates and onboarding approved candidates
  • Daily editing of contributor and other Reworked articles
  • Participation in editorial calendar ideation and updates
  • Participation in SMG’s persona development and interview processes
  • Support the EiC in overseeing Reworked’s network of freelancers writers 
  • Support the EiC in podcast production as needed 
  • Participate in SMG’s conferences and events as a moderator, speaker, etc.
  • Ideally you will also directly contribute content to Reworked on a monthly basis, as your comfort with the subject matter solidifies

You should be a highly self-motivated individual who is hungry to learn and rapidly advance your career. You should enjoy working remotely and be comfortable with modern digital workplace and collaboration tools such as Google Docs, Slack, Asana, etc. You should have significant professional editing and writing experience with B2B and/or scientific content, with a willingness to act upon feedback and direction. You should be passionate about helping bring high-impact stories to life and sharing them with a professional audience.

Specific Requirements Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • 5+ years required of editing experience in journalism, content marketing, research or the equivalent
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to give constructive feedback
  • Willingness to revise work as needed
  • Significant experience (4+ years) writing or editing for a digital publication
  • Strong knowledge of SEO
  • An understanding of how to use imagery, videos and embedded elements to add context to content
  • Comfortable engaging and conversing with a broad mix of people
  • Familiarity with Google Workplace tools or the equivalent  
  • Experience with content management systems

Great to Have

  • Experience public speaking/presenting on webinars, podcasts or at in-person events (1+ year preferred)
  • Experience with survey design, data analysis or data journalism (1+ year preferred)
  • Familiarity with digital workplace technology (1+ year preferred)

SMG offers a competitive base salary and highly competitive benefits package to full time employees.

Pay: $70,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
